The Spirit of Customization - Painting RC Lowriders

As the year inches closer to ending, and everyone is getting into the spirit of the holidays, we've noticed an influx of new RC lowrider enthusiasts getting into the game, and that's dope. We at the Low Low Boys offices love seeing the scene grow and are very thankful to be a part of it. As we all know, the lowrider scene, like many other subcultures, comes with a spirit of competition. Who's got the illest paint? Who's got the cleanest build?

All of these points come from a spirit of expression dating back to the 40's and 50's when Chicanos in Los Angeles began expressing themselves through their lowrider cars. At the time, car culture was starting to blossom across the country, with hot rods being the popular car for many Americans coming back from the War (WW2), and Mexican Americans were in search of their own way to express themselves in the scene while keeping to their familial roots (Bedford, 2021).

Enter the RC lowrider, just as it was then, so it is now that the lowrider has remained a symbol of self-expression, and painting bodies on RC lowriders is no different. The spirit of customizing car bodies in the lowrider and RC lowrider space alike has always been one of ingenuity, artistic vision, and, above all else, having fun and cultivating community.

Brennan Armstrong - Custom body Painter, Brennan Armstrong, painted the “Dr. Green Thumb '59” for Joel Esparza back in Feb-Mar, which went on to win Best of Show at the Lowrider Super shows in both Las Vegas, and Long Beach. He continues to make his mark in the game with his in-depth designs and style

Fransisco Pancho Barron - Pancho has trail blazed the scene with some fire work ever since stepping into the 1:10 scale arena from the model car scene. His color palettes and pinstripe patterns continue to make waves, and inspire more RC lowriders to do custom work to their stock cars.

Painters like Brennan, Pancho, KnC, and Mijo have been leaving their marks on the scene in some incredible ways. Airbrushing RC car bodies mimics the real life process of car paint customizations, and these artists are consistent with the craft.

Kandy-n-Chrome - Pablo Prado has been a staple in the full scale Lowrider Car community for years, Redcat reached out, and they struck a partnership for limited addition Kandy N Chrome Redcat Lowriders, which are still very popular to this day.

Ricardo Mijo Broykes - Joining the Redcat Lowriders Facebook page in early 2023, Mijo has been making quite the name for himself with his unique patterns and clean paint jobs he has completed on enthusiasts looking to give their car that special twist to their over all look.

These are just a few of the talented artists who have flooded the scene with amazing work, and continue to remind us to keep it unique at all times. This scene exists for leisure, it exists for family, and it exists for art. So to those of you new to the scene, or new to customizations, remember, have fun, let your creative run loose, and above all else, express yourself, because that's what it's all about.
